Sodium butyrate stimulates mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨm) depletion in breast cancer cells. MCF-7, MDA-MB-468 and MCF-10A cells were treated with sodium butyrate (1, 5, 10 mM) for 48 h and the level of mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨm) was determined using JC-1 protocol. Sodium butyrate induced a significant decrease in mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨm) in a dose dependent manner. Data represent Mean ± SD of three separate experiments. Statistical differences between different groups were analyzed by ANOVA (* = P < 0.05, ** = P < 0.01, *** = P < 0.001)
