Sodium butyrate increased caspase activity in breast cancer cells. Cells were treated with sodium butyrate (5 and 10 mM) for 48 h and the activity of caspase 3 (a) and caspase 8 (b) was measured accordingly. The activity of caspase-8 was elevated in both cell lines. However, the caspase 3 activity was increased in MDA- MB-468 and remained unchanged in MCF-7 cells and MCF-10A cells. Data represent Mean ± SD of three separate experiments. Statistical differences between different groups were analyzed by ANOVA (* = P < 0.05, ** = P < 0.01, *** = P < 0.001)
