Mitochondrial promoting activity of repeated ingestion of flavan-3-ols. Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and nuclear DNA in gastrocnemius, soleus, brown adipose tissue and white adipose tissue were measured for 24 h after 2 weeks repeated ingestion of flavan-3-ols by PCR described in Materials and Methods. mtDNA copy number was expressed relative to nuclear DNA following amplification of the mitochondrial gene region (cytochrome b and NADH dehydrogenase 1 vs. the nuclear endogenous control region, β-actin).
