The Henderson laboratory studies the metabolic control of lipid release and uptake from tissues and the implications for metabolic health.  Through studies of lipid metabolism at a biochemical level and in vivo, lifestyle factors such as exercise and diet are also addressed.  Specifically, the team studies responses of free fatty acid mobilization, lipoprotein kinetics, and accumulation of various lipids within tissues such as the liver.  The overall goal is to understand how lipid metabolism responds to physiological stressors, as well as to elucidate the relationship between fatty acid metabolism and health.

Parmanand Malvi

Dr. Parmanand Malvi received his PhD degree in Biotechnology from National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS), Pune, India affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), Pune, India. Currently, Dr. Malvi is pursuing his research as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Birmingham, USA. Before joining the UAB, he worked as a Postdoctoral Associate for 3.5 years at Yale University, New Haven, USA. His research interests include Cancer Cell Metabolism, Functional Genomics, Signal Transduction, Drug Resistance in Cancer, Adipocyte Biology, and Connections between Metabolic Diseases (such as Obesity and Diabetes) and Cancer.

Prasenjit Saha

"I carried out my doctoral research at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India in the field of mitochondrial dysfunction associated with heart failure, muscle fatigue, and neurodegenerative disorders. Presently, I am doing my research at the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, USA, in the field of gut-microbiome and cardiovascular disease (CVD) with a special interest in understanding dysregulated cell signaling linked to atherosclerosis and diabetes.  My research interest includes delineating G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) signaling pathways specifically via adrenergic receptors in heart failure and hypertension. We are focused on identifying novel cellular target receptors of human gut microbe derived metabolites pathologically linked to CVD. Identification of receptors of novel CVD linked gut-microbial metabolite would be remarkable in cardiovascular biology as they can be used as therapeutic targets."

Felice Gragnano

Dr. Gragnano currently works as a Research Associate in the Department of Translational Medical Sciences, University of Campania "Luigi Vanvitelli" (Caserta, Italy). From 2018 to 2020, Dr. Gragnano participated in a Research Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at the Inselspital, Universitätsspital Bern, University of Bern (Bern, Switzerland). Dr. Gragnano conducts research on Clinical and Interventional Cardiology with a focus on dyslipidemia, familial hypercholesterolemia, lipid-lowering agents, antithrombotic therapy, and bleeding risk.

Javad Heshmati

Javad Heshmati has a Ph.D in Nutritional Sciences. Dr Heshmati was the President of Songhor Healthcare Center, Kermanshah, Iran, from 2013 to 2015. At present Dr Heshmati is a faculty member in the School of Nutritional Science and Food Technology’s Nutrition Department, Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences. Current research interests include nutritional sciences, Omega-3 fatty acids, Oxidative stress, Obesity/Overweight, and Metabolic Disorders.
 

Qiang Zhao

Dr. Qiang Zhao holds a doctorate and medical degree and is currently conducting research in the field of biomedical science at Georgia State University. Dr. Zhao’s research is related to developing novel preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic approaches for addressing cardiovascular diseases and oxidative stress. Additionally, Dr. Zhao has identified several of the most important factors involved in the development of neointimal hyperplasia.

Ioannis works as a resident physician of Internal Medicine at "Sotiria" General Hospital of Chest Diseases and is also a research fellow at National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. Clinical interests are in the areas of nephrology and cardiovascular disease. Ionnis's research areas of interest include clinical epidemiology, evidence synthesis, and methodology of systematic reviews. Ionnis is particularly interested in network meta-analyses aiming to answer questions about clinical decisions in the fields of hypertension and metabolism.

Amany Mousa
Cairo University, Egypt

Amany has been a Professor Emeritus in the Faculty of Graduate Studies for Statistical Research, Cairo University, since 2008. Granted a Ph.D, in statistics from the University of Florida in 1981, Amany has worked in a number of international universities (including the University of Florida, University of Georgia, Cairo University-Khartoum Branch, King Saud University, Riyadh, and local Egyptian universities). Amany has also been a supervisor and arbitrator of dozens of Master and doctorate theses.

Federica Fogacci

Federica is a meta-analyst and member of the Brisighella Heart Study Group and investigator for several clinical trials in nutraceuticals, in accordance with the principles of ICH GCP Guidelines. She has authored more than 65 full scientific papers published in international peer-reviewed journals. She is a reviewer of papers for several high-quality scientific journals in the fields of internal medicine, cardiovascular disease prevention, metabolic diseases, nutrition/nutraceuticals, and pharmacotherapy. She is a member of the American Society For Preventive Cardiology (ASPV), the American Society for Nutrition (ASN), the European Society of Hypertension (ESH), and the Italian Society for the Study ofAtherosclerosis (SISA).

Krishnendu Khan

Dr. Krishnendu Khan obtained his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. Currently, he is working as a Research Associate in the Department of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Sciences at the Lerner Research Institute of Cleveland Clinic, USA. Dr. Khan’s research focus includes protein translation regulation and how it is affected in various pathological diseases. He has published in various international peer-reviewed journals and also serves as reviewer for reputed journals in his field of expertise. 

Xianbin Zhang

Xianbin Zhang is currently a post doctor in the Department of General Surgery, Shenzhen University General Hospital. He obtained his MD at Rostock University and the classification (mit dem Prädikat) of his dissertation is magna cum laude. Dr. Xianbin Zhang focuses on the basic research and the clinical translation of pancreatic cancer. He currently published more than 30 publications and these publications have accumulated over 100 citations.
